Take your Bibles and turn to Luke chapter 10. Read verses 1-2. The Harvest truly is great, BUT the laborers are few. In the world today the Harvest is great, truly great. This world is so wicked and filled with sin and so many people dying and going to hell every day. The Harvest is great. But, where are the laborers? We have a great harvest but, no laborers! Why is this? Christians today just want to sit and watch and not do any of the work! Why arent they laboring? Some dont labor because of the side effects. They dont want to labor cause of what bad could happen to them. It is like you see on a medicine commercial and they are talking about the medicine and how great it is and what it can do for you. Then after awhile of talking about this medicine, they go to the end of the commercial and another person gets on and says "Side effects include: Vomit, Diarrhea, death, etc...." And then you think to yourself, Why would I want to take this medicine if that is what it can do to me.The same thing applies to the labor. You hear about how great the harvest is and what good it would do to labor for it. But, then some hear the side effects and they say I aint going to do it! What could these side effects be that turn so many off. It can be Persecution. Persecution from fellow believers. It can be attacks from the Devil. And it can be alot more things. These side effects turn people off! Look there in verse three and Jesus says he sends them out as lambs among wolves. What do wolves do to lambs? They attack them and try to kill them. Jesus is telling them here that there are going to be wolves that are goint to try to devour them! But what do the lambs do? They are innocent and they dont fight back. So Jesus is trying to tell them this here that they are supposed to stay innocent. And that the enemy is going to try to attack them. If you go on down to verses 17 through 19. You find out that the 70 return and say that the devils are subject them through his name. And Jesus tells them that he beheld Satan as lightening fall from heaven. And he tells them that he gives them the power to tread on the serpents and scorpions. Jesus gives us the POWER TO TREAD ON THE ENEMY! The 70 were facing the side effects of the labor and they went to Jesus troubled from what the side effects were doing to them. And Jesus tells them that he gives the power to tread on the enemy! Amen! Not thats Gods word! He promises us that he will take care of us and HE gives us the power to overcome the side effects. Turn now to IIThessalonians 2:8 " And then shall the wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:"Amen! The Lord will destroy the enemy! Those that will try to attack you and try to devour you and me. The Lord will consume them with the spirit of his mouth. Now whats that? The word of God! Amen! The Bible will destroy the enemy. That old King James Bible that you hold in your hand is a sword. Use it! When the enemy attacks, attack back with that sword. Becuase the Lord gives you the power to! Dont be discouraged because of the side effects. Look at the harvest. How can you look at how great the harvest is and not labor? Remember the Lord will help you do the job and get it done. But we cant just sit by and watch others labor. We need to start laboring ourselves!
